The T-Scan® III is the only system available to measure dental occlusal forces and quantify how well balanced a patient’s occlusion is. Because the T-Scan III can measure force over time, it is an indispensable tool for appraising the sequential relationships of a mandibular excursion. In other words, Dr. Charles Fischer and Dr. Lissa Alconcel can view a patient’s jaw movement and see a visual display of force on the patient’s teeth in a type of movie format that we can replay on the computer screen so you can view it, too. This is instrumental in locating occlusal interferences, determining the relative force on each interference and evaluating the potential for trauma caused by the occlusal interferences.
When we use the T-Scan III, our dentists will have you bite down on an ultra-thin sensor to measure the time and force of your bite. This information will then be displayed in a detailed 3D analysis on a nearby screen, and we will use it to help determine which type of treatment is right for you. Some of the treatment options our dentists may recommend based on the results captured by the T-scan include:
- Occlusal guards or splint therapy
- Restorative dental treatments
- Orthodontic treatment
