Year after year, tens of thousands of people in the United States are diagnosed with oral cancer. Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the world, with the disease killing more than 8,000 Americans annually. As with many other types of cancer and with most certainly oral cancer, early detection plays a critical role in one’s chance for successful treatment.
Our office routinely performs a visual oral cancer screening during not only the initial patient dental exam but all recall and periodic exams. We also use the Identafi® oral cancer screening system, which was recognized as a Top Product in 2012 in Dentistry Today. This product uses three different wavelengths of light so that oral tissue changes can be monitored and any abnormalities detected. This three-wavelength system provides Dr. Charles Fischer and Dr. Lissa Alconcel with the information needed to make accurate recommendations. If you notice something unusual in your mouth, do not wait to contact us. Call the office today, as early detection is key!
Keep in mind that cancerous lesions can be small, may look like an irritation and could be ulcerated, red or white. If you see any of these things on your lips, cheeks, or especially along the sides or under your tongue, please call our office today at 303-740-9353 to schedule an appointment with our dentists at Greenwood Village Dentistry and learn more about oral cancer screening in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
